Shireen O'Brien studied to be a Registered Nurse at the University of Western Sydney in N.S.W. She graduated in 1997 then worked as an Intensive Care and Emergency nurse for many years. Shireen then spent some time in varied roles comprising of pharmaceutical sales, Clinical Nurse Facilitating for James Cook University (nursing students) and working as a private contract nurse consultant; before completing her post graduate studies in Diabetes Education at Curtin University in Western Australia. Since that time Shireen has worked hard to establish a practice as the first full time private diabetes educator in the Far North of Queensland; which she began from the boot of her car.
Shireen is passionate about diabetes and empowering others to take control of their health. Quality and continuity bases the foundation on which she works and her caring attitude is the point of difference. Shireen is a current member of the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) and has spoken as a guest speaker for many private organizations. In 2013 Shireen was invited to present at the 4th World Congress on Diabetes and Metabolism in the USA and as the Director of O’Brien Healthcare has formulated some novel approaches in clinical diabetes care.
Shireen currently enjoys Salsa dancing, dining out and all forms of travel; with her current focus being to create a better work life balance!
